12/07/21 - Vandalizing Or Disturbing Archaeological Sites

I'm on about page 44 in this book called "The Lost World Of The Old Ones" by David Roberts. A book focusing on "Discoveries In The Ancient Southwest" and ancient indigenous places in the United States. In both the prologue and the beginning of chapter one, he was discussing how people like to disturb archaeological sites. He went in depth about how lots of overzealous aspiring archaeologists, travelers and hikers like to take certain elements (some big, some small) from these ruins; never once considering they should NOT take nor disturb. From small obsidian arrowheads to large dug up items used for survival, some people feel so entitled to taking things that are not theirs. There's also many people who vandalize, spray paint graffiti, or completely demolish certain areas of archaeological interest. To that I say, SHAME ON YOU. Have you no decency or sense of mind? I'm trying to piece together why anyone would feel this is a reasonable and justifiable thing to do. You do not hold ownership of these ancient artifacts. They are not your property to take. In fact lots of these items you're pocketing could be used and turned in for thorough study. Despite how hungry I am to explore the old ways of our prehistoric brothers and sisters, I would never think it appropriate to take something from a place of honor and rich history. So to any exuberant hiker or explorer ready to set out on their next adventure, I'd like to leave you with a question. How would you like for your personal possessions to be pick pocketed ?
